Share an 'ah-ha' moment when you knew you made a great career decision to become a nurse?
One of my most memorable ah-ha moments was during a lecture on fluids and electrolytes when a student who had struggled with the concept finally had it click. The excitement in their voice and the confidence that replaced their frustration reminded me why I love nursing education. Helping students bridge the gap between complex concepts and real-world application affirmed that I had chosen the right path—one where I could not only care for patients but also shape the next generation of nurses.
What inspires you most about being a nurse?
What inspires me most about being a nurse is the profound impact we have—not just on individual patients, but on the future of healthcare. Nursing is a profession rooted in compassion, critical thinking, and resilience, and I’m driven by the opportunity to empower and mentor the next generation. Seeing nurses grow in confidence, skill, and leadership reaffirms my passion for education and innovation in nursing.
Share something awesome you are doing in your current role as a nurse.
I’m leading the development of an innovative, nurse-driven platform that supports learners at every stage—from CNA and pre-nursing to NCLEX prep, advanced practice, and continuing education. I'm excited to be empowering nurses with the knowledge and confidence to thrive in their careers at every stage, and very proud to be creating a resource designed by nurses, for nurses—one that fosters a love for the profession and helps retain passionate, skilled nurses in the workforce.
What do you wish people outside of the nursing profession knew about nursing?
I wish people outside the profession knew that nursing is so much more than tasks and bedside care—it’s a blend of critical thinking, leadership, advocacy, and deep human connection. Nurses are the backbone of healthcare, making split-second decisions that save lives while providing compassionate care. Beyond the clinical skills, nursing requires resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to patients, families, and communities.
Share a useful tip(s) you use to inspire/engage patients, colleagues, or students.
I remind students that their worth is not defined by a test score—being a great nurse is about critical thinking, compassion, and resilience. I encourage them to see challenges as growth opportunities and to focus on the bigger picture of the impact they will have on patients’ lives. By shifting the focus from perfection to progress, I help them build confidence and stay motivated on their journey to becoming exceptional nurses.
What motivates you to participate in the NC Nurses Association?
I’m motivated to be part of the NC Nurses Association because it’s a powerful community that amplifies the voice of nurses and drives meaningful change in our profession. Through advocacy, education, and mentorship, NCNA supports nurses at every stage of their careers, and I’m proud to contribute to that mission. Being involved allows me to connect with and uplift fellow nurses while working to shape the future of nursing in North Carolina.
Morgan's Advice for a New Nurse
My advice to new nurses is simple: You don’t know what you don’t know—and that’s okay. Nursing is a lifelong journey of learning, and no one expects you to have all the answers on day one. Stay curious, ask questions, lean on your team, and give yourself grace as you grow. The best nurses aren’t the ones who know everything but the ones who never stop learning.
NCNA thanks you for being a part of our community and for your passion for nursing, Morgan!
