Council of Nurse Practitioners

The Council of Nurse Practitioners is an active entity within the North Carolina Nurses Association. The Council works collaboratively with the NCNA Board of Directors to identify issues important to NPs and their patients and to develop strategies to address these needs. Through the Council, NPs have the opportunity to network and advocate for NP issues in North Carolina and to promote the recognition of NPs as providers of high-quality, personalized, and cost-effective care.

Membership in NCNA is required for Council membership and participation in Council activities at all levels. The Council is divided into geographic regions across the state. This regional structure is designed to enhance communication, networking, continuing education and leadership development opportunities at the grassroots level.

Examples of Nurse Practitioner Council activities include:

  • Organizing efforts for NPs to meet with legislators at the state capitol to discuss health care reform and the NP profession
  • Meeting with political candidates to discuss health care, the NP profession, and reform
  • Informing the public of the important role of NPs in health care
  • Keep NC NPs updated on important policy and legislative action
