Governor Roy Cooper has signed HB 550, "Establish New Nurse Licensure Compact," into law!
This bill protects nearly 18,000 nurses in North Carolina who depend on the multi-state licensing process, and it will establish our place in the Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators.
Today's signing was a pivotal moment for the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact far beyond our state lines: North Carolina is the 26th state to pass eNLC legislation, and the enhanced compact is designed to take effect when 26 states have signed on -- so we're officially the triggering state for implementation!
NCNA endorsed HB 550 before the session started in January, and when the bill appeared to be stalled, our lobbyists worked hard to impress upon lawmakers the importance that this legislation pass in 2017.
