Appreciative Inquiry (AI) became the fundamental methodology for development of the NTN program. AI promotes change through creative dialogue, excitement, and a focus on what works well versus problem identification and negativity. The AI approach includes four phases, which are Discovery, Dream, Design and Deliver. All of these phases are important in effecting change.
From this model the “Discovery Agent” was created to take nurses into the field and help them “discover” what made a nursing setting and a consumer’s care exceptional. And the role of the “Delivery Agent” emerged to move the program into health care facilities and encourage other nurses’ involvement.
