Part Time Continuing Nursing Education Consultant

The North Carolina Nurses Association is seeking an enthusiastic professional nurse to join our busy team as a part-time Continuing Nursing Education consultant for our accredited Approver Unit. This involves managing the NCNA’s Accredited Approver Unit and serving as the nurse leader responsible for the peer review process within the Accredited Approver Unit.

CNE Consultant/ NCNA Continuing Education Approver Unit

The consultant’s scope includes the role as defined by ANCC-Accredited Approver Program Director (AAPD) with responsibility and accountability for the Accredited Approver Unit and its adherence to ANCC Primary Accreditation program criteria. Leads the peer review process for the Accredited Approver Unit for Individual Activity and Approved Provider application reviews. Provides guidance and support to Nurse Peer Reviewers during the review process. Acts as the liaison between ANCC and the NCNA Accredited Approver Unit. Promotes positive customer service environment for individual activity applicants and approved providers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as leader of nurse peer reviewers and program director of the accredited approver unit for the peer review process for individual activity and approved provider application reviews.
  • Demonstrate commitment to, accountability for, and leadership of the accredited approver unit
  • Provides orientation for new nurse peer reviewers and ongoing training for all nurse peer reviewers
  • Provides mentoring and coaching for all nurse peer reviewers
  • Serves as a nurse peer reviewer of individual activity applications and approved provider applications as needed
  • Guides individual activity applicants and approved providers about identified deficiencies in applications, questions about the CNE process or strategies for improving activities or provider unit functions
  • Communicates changes of the American Nurse Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation (ANCC COA) criteria to nurse peer reviewers and appropriate stakeholders as necessary
  • Incorporates Primary Accreditation program criteria within the CNE Approver Unit policies and procedures.
  • Compiles and reports accredited approver unit data as required
  • Acts as the liaison between ANCC’s Primary Accreditation program office and the accredited approver unit
  • Collects, monitors, and evaluates quality outcome measures related to the accredited approver unit and nursing professional development
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the approver unit.

Qualifications:

  • Registered nurse – holding a current, valid, and unencumbered license
  • Must have a Master’s degree, and either the baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing (or international equivalent)
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in nursing practice; with three years of nursing education experience preferred
  • Experience as a primary nurse planner in an approved provider unit or lead nurse planner in an accredited provider unit preferred.
  • Skills in interpersonal communication and relationships, group facilitation, collaboration, and conflict resolution
  • Strong computer skills

Position Requirements:

This position reports to the NCNA Director of Nursing Education and Practice. This position offers part-time hours and flexibility but requires an autonomous, experienced, and resolute professional who can meet variable demands from workload and time-sensitive deadlines. Hours are flexible and related to the volume of approved provider and individual applications. Work hours vary slightly by the month with the average in the range of 40-60 hours per month. This position offers a remote work option for the candidate who meets the qualifications and experience level.

Part-time Administrative Assistant Nursing Continuing Education

The North Carolina Nurses Association is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our busy team as a part-time Administrative Assistant to support NCNA’s work with nursing continuing education. The needs are approximately 15 hours per week.  Major responsibilities include the following administrative functions:

Administrative Support/Continuing Education Approver Unit

  • Responsible for communications to continuing education customers including notification of renewal dates, application status and required documents.
  • Responsible for timely processing of new, renewal and individual applications.
  • Responsible for maintaining documentation in electronic files, spreadsheet management, and database tracking.
  • Responsible for monitoring continuing education mailbox and timely communications with customers, nurse peer reviewers and CE Consultant.

Administrative Support/Office Assistant

  • Assist with front line office coverage including reception duties.
  • Assist with general office and phone support as needed.

Position Requirements:

Excellent computer skills with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and other computer programs; Ability to effectively work and handle numerous tasks, issues, and assignments that support the approver unit; Ability to produce professional documents with minimal number of errors; includes spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors; Discipline to successfully work without close supervision; and other duties assigned as needed.

The ability to lift up to 15 pounds and operate a vehicle is required. A minimum of 1-2 years of administrative experience required, as well as a high school diploma and some post-high school education is required.  Additional education and/or some previous association/non-profit experiences are a plus. 

Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail and ability to communicate in a variety of forms are key to success in this position. Experience with nursing continuing education and database manipulation a plus.

This position offers part-time hours and flexibility but requires an experienced and dedicated professional who is interested in maintaining part-time work throughout the calendar year. Hours are negotiable, but should be during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. This position is required to perform duties in the office (no remote work option).
